Pedagogies Toolkit provides research-based strategies for lesson planning and remodeling to maximize student engagement and content mastery. Chapter 1 describes pedagogical research findings in a practical, brief, and accessible fashion, then applies those findings to a step-by-step method of lesson planning/remodeling in Chapter 2. Chapter 2 equips classroom teachers and instructional coaches with the methodology necessary to revise and enhance any lesson into a student-centered, engaging, and effective learning experience that are aligned to the Common Core State Standards. Chapters 3-5 then provide over 85 ready-to-use lesson remodeling strategies that can be immediately implemented in the classroom, grades 4-12. Key Selling Points Each of the pedagogies in the toolkit is aligned to Grade 6 to 12 Common Core State Standards Anchors for English and Language Arts; and History, Social Studies, Science and Technical Subjects. The Common Core State Standards provide a consistent, clear understanding of what students are expected to learn, defining the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education in addition to the individual state standards in each subject area. The specific connections are summarized in Appendix B. Many of the pedagogies also apply to the Mathematics Common Core State Standards at all levels, particularly with respect to literacy within the mathematics curriculum. Research-based methodology that ensures effective, quality instructional design. Based on McTighe'¬"s recognized '¬Sbackwards planning,'¬ this book explains how '¬Sdesign-down'¬ planning ensures that assessments are carefully chosen and aligned to learning expectations/outcomes (consistent with the principles of concept attainment), and that the lesson itself is scaffolded in a way that allows students to practice the sub-tasks necessary for mastery of the knowledge and skills assessed, consistent with Common Core State Standards recommendations . (See Figure 9 in the sample material). Both a method of instructional design/re-design AND a compendium of ready-to-use strategies. This book explains the research behind this instructional design method, provides a step-by-step overview, and then provides numerous strategies that both model the method and provide educators with immediately implementable strategies tied to CCSS. Teachers will have tools they can use right away and also be equipped with the knowledge to complete their own lesson redesigns and original lesson planning.
