This volume, the third in a series of catalogues of Pre-Columbian art at Dumbarton Oaks, presents the outstanding collection of Aztec, Mixtec, Zapotec, Teotihuacan, and Classic Veracruz sculpture, jewelry, and painting. Four leading scholars present essays on the ancient art and archaeology of Mexicors"s Central Highlands, Southwestern Highlands, and Gulf Lowlands as well as extensive catalogue entries of over one hundred objects of jade, shell, fine ceramics, wood, and other materials. SUSAN TOBY EVANS is professor of Anthropology at Pennsylvania State University. Her major research interest is Aztec culture, and she has surveyed Aztec settlement systems and excavated the site of Cihuatecpan in the Teotihuacan Valley, Mexico. She is the author of Ancient Mexico and Central America: Archaeology and Culture History (2008), winner of the Society for American Archaeology's Book Award.
