Physical books versus e-readers is a debate that is being hashed out a lot lately since so many new tablets and versions of e-readers are being developed. The two main questions are which is better, and are physical books going to become obsolete with the invention of the e-reader?
I know that this is annoyingly diplomatic of me, but I love both physical books and e-readers! I am an avid reader and hope to have my own personal library someday so it would seem only logical that I favor physical books, but I honestly really enjoy both and I don’t think I should have to choose between the two.
I think e-readers are great because of how compact they are, but they can never replace the real thing. Therefore, I use my Nook for when I travel, and physical books when I want to sit down and enjoy a good read with a cup of tea! They both have their pros and cons, but in the end choosing just one is absurdly difficult for me. I find myself buying books on my Nook, falling in love with them, and then deciding I need a physical copy of it (Just because. I can’t really explain why, it’s just that when I really love a book I need to be able to physically hold it in my hands).
That’s why I think real books will never become obsolete, because of book nerds like myself. I can’t imagine not being able to turn the pages of a book and smell that old book smell that I love so much. Also, some people just don’t like reading on electronic devices! Whether they’re old fashioned, it hurts their eyes, or they simply prefer the look and feel of real books…my point is, there will always be people that vehemently oppose electronic reading.
Both real books and e-readers bring their own strengths and weaknesses to the table, so I think it’s really up to the preference of the reader when deciding which to use. Or you could just be like me and love and embrace both with open arms! To me, reading is reading and I’m glad people are doing it whether it’s electronically or old fashioned.
