The Lost Art of Love Letters

Published 11, August 2012 05:00  | by Ashley

I know this is wildly unrealistic since we live in the 21st century and everything, but I really want a boy to write me a love letter. A few weeks ago when I was wishing and hoping for a cutesy love letter, I decided to read a book called Love Letters of Great Men. That was not a very good idea considering the emotional state I was in. Reading those adorable letters written by men such as Napoleon Bonapart, Ludwig van Beethoven, John Keats, Oscar Wilde, Nathaniel Hawthorne, and many more made me yearn for the days when people expressed their feelings with the written word.

When I ask for a love letter, I don’t really think I’m asking for much! I’d even take an ordinary letter telling me the details of the writer’s day! Graham Snowdon wrote an article for The Guardian called “Sue Perkins and the lost art of letter writing.” It talked about how so few people don’t write letters anymore and how so many people enjoy receiving them. See?!

I think we should all take some time to sit down and write someone a page or two about whatever is on our minds. It’s a slower paced way to catch up with a person and in such a fast paces world it might be fun to switch things up a bit!

(If anyone reading this wants to write me a letter I would not hate that.)

I share your love of letters, and am also saddened that they seem to be vanishing from our lives.  I'd be happy to write you a letter, if you send me a mailing address.
