Just Write!

Writers block is one of my least favorite things in the history of the world. I have noticed that a lot of people have different types of writers block. Some people can’t come up with ideas, some people can’t find the right words to say what they want, and then there’s me. I pretty much know exactly what I want to say and how to say it, I just can’t get myself to write it because I’m worried that what I want to say won’t be conveyed properly when I actually write it down.

I find that although there are many types of writers block, there is only one cure. Just write. I know that sounds obvious and simple but there’s more to it. In my experience, it’s best to just sit down and write whatever comes to your mind. Don’t plan, don’t over think, just write. I usually do that and then I reread everything when I’m done and edit things out/add things in.

Don’t be worried about what other people are going to think or how everything is going to come together, just write something down and things will start to flow. Also, don’t get down on yourself if you still can’t quite get it the first few times you try. I (and even famous authors) still have issues with writers block.  Now get writing!

Julia Cameron's practice of writing stream of consciousness first thing in the morning is a GREAT cure for writer's block. As is genuine living.
There is a natural balance between input and output. Like breathing.
Sometimes writer's block is caused by trying to impress.
Sometimes it is caused by lack of stimulation.
Sometimes we block ourselves with criticism.
We all need to be reminded that writing and editing are two very different processes. First write. Then edit. If you want help editing, there are many great editors out there, including us! FixMyWriting.com
Creativity does not thrive in an atmosphere of(self-)criticism.
When we are injured, our muscles recover and strength is regained through USE. So it is with writing.
Thank you for a lovely post!
