As I was browsing the Internet the other day I came across something horrible. There is a video (that has since been taken down from her website) of Lauren Conrad (remember 'LC' from The Hills on MTV?!) cutting up books for decoration. Isn’t that tragic? To make matters even worse, she was cutting up Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events.
The video consisted of Conrad constructing a storage box that has cut up books on the outside of it. In the video Conrad cuts the binding off of the books and cuts out every single page. She then proceeds to crudely hot glue the remnants of the book to the outside of what appears to be a plain white gift box. She explained that it would be a cute way of creating additional storage space while still displaying your books (She even suggested that you use vintage books! How sad). I think not! In response to the video my friend said, “That’s not a cute way of storing the books if the actual books aren’t there,” and I agree.
I think good ‘ole LC has learned her lesson since I’m assuming she took the video down due to the overwhelming negative response, but to anyone else that is thinking of murdering beautiful books….please don’t. Instead try and use the books in the true form as decoration. A great way to display your books is to organize them on the shelf by the color on the binding. This is an easy way to create an appealing look without murdering a perfectly good book. Not sure if you agree? Check out the video below.
