The lanthanide elements are those in which their atomic numbers range from 57 to 71. Upon the addition of the elements existing in the same subgroup, having atomic number 21 and 39, scandium (Sc) and yttrium(Y), totally 17 of them are named rare earth elementsIn the later of the last century, scientists start to focus on the applications of the rare earth elements.
