When Pete Sarsfield was a kid, he stammered badly. Words in his mouth were enemies, but from the time he was seven, words on paper became his friends. They are still friends in these personal essays about the people, places, and work of a Canadian community physician in remote and northern communities. Home, although he hasn't lived there for years, is Nova Scotia's Annapolis valley. Then there is work, almost twenty-five years of working in and with Northern communities, starting with almost a decade on the coast of Labrador and then ranging to communities in northern Manitoba, and Cambridge Bay in the North West Territories. Med-evacs, nursing station visits, conferences as far away as Stockholm, family vacations, and job changes make travel by plane, snowmobile and train a constant.
