Blake, Modernity and Popular Culture

Two and a half centuries after his birth, Blake's influence on later generations of writers and artists is more important than ever, extending into film, psychology, children's literature, and graphic novels as well as poetry, painting, and fiction. Blake, Modernity, and Popular Culture explores the ways in which Blake reacted to the subcultures of his day, as well as how he has inspired popular, modernist and postmodernist figures until the present day.

STEVE CLARK is Visiting Professor at the Graduate School of Humanities and Sociology, University of Tokyo, Japan. Previous publications include Historicizing Blake (1994), Blake in the Nineties (1999) and Blake, Nation and Empire (2006), all co-edited with David Worrall, and The Reception of Blake in the Orient (2006) co-edited with Masashi Suzuki. JASON WHITTAKER is Senior Lecturer in English with Media Studies at University College Falmouth, Cornwall. He is the author of William Blake and the Myths of Britain and, with Shirley Dent, Radical Blake: Influence and Afterlife from 1827.
