Blood Orange Summer

When Persy was eighteen-years old she happily ran off with her fifty-year old art history professor despite the impassioned pleas of her feminist mother, but now she is almost thirty, unemployable, pregnant, facing her husband's mortality, and wondering if she should've listened to Mom. Blood Orange Summer is a modern re-imagining of the Myth of Persephone and Hades. The novelette, beginning on a snowy March day and ending on the Autumnal equinox, follows Persy as she wades through an existential crisis stemming from the popular tale that her husband destroyed her innocence. With the help of her Mother, her friend Francis, and her dog Mongrel, Persy takes responsibility for her own life even if it is a life overlooked and best forgotten.
