This book provides the first detailed account of the confrontation which took place between Britain and Nasser in the Colony of Aden and the surrounding states prior to British withdrawal in 1967. It argues that Britain's determination to contain Nasser's influence led them to pursue an expansionist policy which exacerbated Arab hostility and radicalized the politics of the region. The book suggests that the British motivation for this campaign was a determination to confront Nasser and guide the politics of this corner of the Arabian peninsular. The author examines how the failure of this British policy led to the victory of the National Liberation Front and the establishment in South Yemen of the only Marxist Government in the Arab world.
