Prior research has assisted in developing theory, definitions for purposes of diagnoses, and has identified a variety of psychological problems likely caused community violence. Research has failed, however, to uncover solutions and preventative measures for avoidance of this traumatic stress. The current study seeks to find whether extra-curricular activities in the past and present serve as a mediator to locus of control and coping in persons exposed to community violence in adolescence and adulthood using a college sample. The current study added to research that extra- curricular activities alone may not have an impact on coping skills and internal locus of control in those exposed. This study has continued a discussion in exposure intervention and treatment of symptoms. This will help clinicians find new ways to treat the mass amount of people who are affected by a high amount of community violence exposure.
