During the 1988 Seoul Olympic Games, Lewis, an NBC Sports commentator, wrote "Legs, Legs, Legs," a joyful rhyme about the different shapes and sizes of Olympian legs and the tasks they perform. The feature earned Lewis an EMMY award for Writing.
Across his 30-year TV career, Lewis received numerous other honors for writing, journalism, and documentary excellence. His essays and commentary also appeared in a variety of publications, including NEWSWEEK and the International Herald Tribune.

Since retiring from network TV, Lewis has written parody, lyrics, commentary, and poetry. Lewis has lived in Aspen, CO more than 50 years. He commuted worldwide to broadcast international sports for 30 years, including several Olympic Games. He graduated from Middlebury College in 1969 and received an Honorable Discharge from the US Marine Corps. Sports Illustrated featured Lewis as a "Hometown Hero" for his humanitarian initiatives in Sarajevo during the Bosnia War, in the early 1990's.
