Children with Visual Impairment in Mainstream Settings

This book is written for teachers in mainstream settings who are about to teach pupils with a visual impairment for the first time. It describes the impact a visual impairment can have upon a pupil's access to the curriculum and suggests many practical ways in which these difficulties can be overcome. The authors, who all have first-hand experience of teaching children with a visual impairment, share advice on assessment, differentiation and how low and high technological aids can support the pupil's work. They also include a glossary of common words and expressions used in this field and a section of useful addresses and organisations. It is an ideal handbook for student and newly qualified teachers and those who are taking inservice or professional development training. It will also be of interest to LEA advisers, parents and governors of mainstream schools with pupils with a visual impairment.
