Citizenship, Migrant Activism and the Politics of Movement

Migration and immigration is an issue dominating the political agendas and policies of industrialized countries.Citizens and non-citizens are viewed as mobile bodies that carry potential risks and must be subject to risk assessments, upon which rights to movement are then either granted or restricted.Migration and Citiizenship analyzes recent shifts in governing global mobility from the perspective of the politics of citizenship. It investigates how restrictions on mobility may be generating new forms of inequality and social exclusion but also new forms of political activism, citizenship identities, and openings for conceptualizing citizenship differently.This wide ranging study will be of interest to students and scholars of migration and security politics, globalisation and citizenship studies.
