Class, Race, Gender, and Crime

This book is a systematic examination of the impact of class, race and gender on crime and criminal justice. After a lucid introduction to these key concepts, the subsequent chapters consistently use them to structure discussions of criminology, victimization and the administration of criminal justice (law making, law enforcement, adjudication, sentencing, and punishment). Contemporary data and policy debates are viewed through the lens of social justice and the goal of further realizing equal justice under law.

Gregg Barak is professor of criminology and criminal justice at Eastern Michigan University. He is the author of a number of books, including Criminology: In Integrated Approach, and is the editor of the series Issues in Crime and Justice. Paul Leighton is professor of criminology and criminal justice at Eastern Michigan University. He is the coauthor of Punishment for Sale: Private Prisons, Big Business, and the Incarceration Bringe, as well as several other books. Jeanne Flavin is associate professor of sociology at Fordham University. She is the author of Our Bodies, Our Crimes: The Policing of Women's Reproduction in America.
