Close, but No Cigar

This isn't your usual "how to" book on dementia, nor is it a multi-syllable medically worded tome to put you to sleep. Think of it as a long letter from an old friend who has spent a lot of time with demented people and their caregivers. Not all is somber; some will put a smile on your face. But that's not too strange since that's the way it is with dementia patients. How come the word dementia is used? Because Alzheimer's is the main cause of this disorder. In the U.S. today, some 4.5 million people have this kind of dementia and letting people know about Alzheimer's (and a number of other causes) can give you a clearer picture of what was once called "hardening of the arteries."
