Countering Terrorism

Countering Terrorism contextualizes the issues related to terrorism and places the discourse within the gambit of sociocultural theories. The book goes beyond the obvious and commonsensical notions of terror and counter-terror and discusses the relevant issues from interdisciplinary perspectives, informed by theoretical stances of not only psychological sciences, but other social sciences like political science, criminology, military and sociology as well. It includes articles by experts from the developed as well as developing parts of the world. The volume contains 18 chapters which have been arranged under two broad sections. The first section, "Understanding Terrorists: The Psychosocial Profile" focuses upon delineating the nature of terror acts and characteristics of the perpetrators. The second section "Countering Terrorism: Psychosocial Strategies" centers on the psychological, social, cultural, and political measures for countering terror and reiterates the importance of these as augmenters of the military efforts.
