Das System Des Bargeldlosen Zahlungsverkehrs Europaischer Pragung Vom Mittelalter Bis 1914

This volume studies the development of international cashless payment transactions from the Middle Ages to the year 1914. Based on the bill of exchange as the medium of cashless payment, it demonstrates the spread of this system, which more or less constitutes the basis of our modern payments system, from its original core area in Europe throughout the rest of the world. In the process, the different European and extra-European exchange markets and their interconnections throughout the centuries are studied through the sources of market quotations at the respective exchange markets. The result shows an increasingly close network of more and more exchange markets resulting in an early form of globalization from a trade- and economical-historical perspective. German info text: Die Studie behandelt die Entwicklung der internationalen Zahlungsverkehrsbeziehungen auf der Grundlage des Wechsels vom Mittelalter bis zum Epochenjahr 1914. Anhand des Wechsels als Medium des bargeldlosen Zahlungsverkehrs zeigt sie dabei die Ausbreitung dieses Systems, das cum grano salis die Grundlage fur das Zahlungsverkehrssystem der Gegenwart darstellt, vom ursprunglichen Kernraum Europa letztlich uber die gesamte okonomisch relevante Welt. Dabei werden die verschiedenen europaischen und auaereuropaischen Wechselmarkte und ihre wechselseitigen Beziehungen uber die Jahrhunderte hinweg untersucht. Als Quelle dienen die jeweiligen Kursnotierungen an den einzelnen Wechselplatzen. Im Ergebnis wird eine immer engere Vernetzung einer immer groaeren Zahl an Wechselmarkten erkennbar, die aus der Perspektive der Handels- und Finanzgeschichte eine fruhe Form von Globalisierung darstellt.
