Essays, Interviews, and Performances by Moira Roth. Commentary by Jonathan D. Katz. Foreword by Saul Ostrow. Difference/Indifference assembles for the first time Moira Roth's articles, lectures, and interviews on the two men who define twentieth-century avant-garde art: Marcel Duchamp and John Cage. Her engagement with them began in the early 1970s as inspirations for her teaching and writing, but she has returned to them periodically over the course of nearly three decades of scholarship as their transformation into "classical" figures prompted her to reevaluate their art. Roth teaches at Mills College, Oakland. Jonathan D. Katz, who chairs the Department of Gay and Lesbian Studies at City College of San Francisco, provides a commentary.
