Entering the Ark

Cambridge Reading is a major new reading scheme providing stimulating books and support materials for the teaching of reading throughout the primary years. Key features include: a coherent yet flexible structure for teaching and learning; a variety of attractive picture books; a balance of text types and genres, including stories, poems and information books; an integrated phonics programme; comprehensive support materials. The Beginning to Read stage includes three Undoing a Picture books, Hunting in the Marshes, Entering the Ark and January, These teach the use of text in conjunction with illustration. Each deals with a work of art, focusing on close-ups of animals and people from the work. The technique shows children how to look at paintings by concentrating on details as part of a whole.
