Environmental Psychology for Design

Awarded the 2006 ASID Joel Polsky Prize, the 1st edition of Environmental Psychology for Design served as an inspiring introduction to the discipline of environmental psychology for students. The 2nd Edition continues to embrace the various factors that influence human behavior with the built environment, focusing on the practice and principles of environmental psychology as they pertain to the design fields and is specifically geared to the student of design, and the practicing designer. Through brief discussions of scientific research, philosophical perspectives, and illustrations of design in practice, this book incorporates fundamental environmental psychology concepts into the practice of the design fields.

David Alan "DAK" Kopec, PhD, NCHES, ASID, IDEC, is an Associate Professor of Design at the NewSchool of Architecture and Design, served as a Visiting Lecturer at Virginia Commonwealth University in Doha Qatar and Visiting Professor at the University of Hawaii in the schools of Architecture and Medicine. A member of the Interior Design Educators Council (IDEC) and certified by the National Commission for Health Education Credentialing (NCHES), Kopec is also a Fullbright Specialist and member of ASID's Distinguished Speakers. Among Kopec's most notable accomplishments include several journal articles and authoring three textbooks and two monographs. He is a recipient of ASID Foundation 2006 Joel Polsky Prize, volunteer award from Rebuilding Together San Diego 2008, and the NSAD President Award 2010.
