Flying the Rim

I banked right and clawed out through the notch. The horizon burst open with a shower of sweet sunlight and the taste of fresh air." The event described here by the author in his search for uranium in the 1950s is one of many describing the excitement, the disappointments, and the discoveries of a pilot-geologist team flying a Piper Super Cub in the rim country of the Southwest. Written as a memoir, it looks back at the author's experience as a pilot in the postwar propeller navy and forward to flying in the nineties and beyond. The 2nd Edition expands the original book with a sequel describing the author's adventures on a flight to Alaska .
