The first F-Series, called the F-1 (half ton), F-2 (three-quarter ton), or F-3 (Heavy Duty), were introduced as 1948 models. Over the past 60 years, the Ford F series has been known as the All-American truck. It has been the best-selling vehicle in the United States for the past 23 years and the best-selling truck for more than 30 years. William G. Scheller is the author of more than twenty books, including American Hot Rod and American Chopper for HLLA/Universe. A two-time finisher in the 7,000-mile One Lap of America transcontinental automobile rally, he is co-author of the cult classic Manifold Destiny, which launched the craze for cooking on car engines; and collaborated with public television car expert Brad Sears on the book Last Chance Garage. He and his wife, Kay, are authors and publishers of Best Vermont Drives, a guide to their adopted state.
