Free-Space Optics Propagation and Communication

The history of optical communications, the principles of electromagnetism, and the emission and reception of optical beams are examined in this reference. Problems associated with the propagation of photons, both in the presence and absence of obstacles, and safety confidentiality issues are also discussed.

HervT Sizun is an electromagnetic wave propagation specialist at France Telecom who also works with the International Telecommunication Union on radiowave propagation. Christian Boisrobert is a codesigner of the first optical-fiber digital links in France. He is a professor at the University of Nantes. FrTdTrique de Fornel is a director of research at the Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (CNRS) and the head of the Near Field Optics Group at the University of Bourgogne. She is a world-renowned specialist in evanescent waves and guided optical propagation. Pierre-Nodl Favennec is an engineering consultant and chairman of the Union Radio-Scientifique Internationale.
