The Future of Diversity Academic Leaders

InThe Future of Diversity,distinguished academic leaders - heads of universities and foundations as well as faculty with valuable research and personal experience - discuss the next stage in the pursuit of democratic diversity and excellence on our campuses across the country. How can we make our universities more socially representative and open to all who wish to study? How can we create a campus culture that is more hospitable to a diverse student, staff, and faculty? What steps can we take to improve the university's relevance to our globalizing world? This volume assesses current attempts to create a positive and democratic campus culture and lays out some specific and general proposals for achieving greater success in the future.

Daniel Little has served as Chancellor of the University of Michigan-Dearborn since 2000. Previously he served as Vice President for Academic Affairs at Bucknell University from 1996 to 2000. He is a philosopher of the social sciences and the author of six books, including Microfoundations. Method and Causation (1998) and The Paradox of Wealth and Poverty (2003).
Satya P. Mohanty has taught at Cornell University since 1983, where he is currently Professor of English. He has written and edited books on literary theory, minority studies, and colonial and postcolonial studies. His book, Literary Theory and the Claims of History: Postmodernism, Objectivity, Multicultural Politics (1997), argues for a "postpositivist realist" theory of culture and literature and introduces a new theory of social identity, especially minority identity. He is one of the founders of the national Future of Minority Studies (FMS) Research Project and the founding director of the FMS Summer Institute (established 2005), which is funded through grants from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
