Gender, Planning and Human Rights

This collection challenges the traditional treatment of human rights. The book argues that to truly promote the notion of human rights its scope must be widened to include issues of space, gender and power. The contributors use a wealth of international case studies to lay out a new agenda for successfully integrating human rights issues in planning, development and policy making.

Gillian Davidson is a geographer. Until recently she researched at the Centre for Applied Population Research in Dundee, Scotland, and is currently conducting socio-legal research for the Law Society (England). Tovi Fenster is a Lecturer at the Department of Geography, Tel Aviv University, Israel. She is a member of the board of directors of the Association for Civil Rights in Israel. Eleonore Kofman is Professor of Human Geography at Nottingham Trent University, England. Maureen Hays-Mitchell is an Assistant Professor of Geography and Coordinator of the Latin American Studies Program at Colgate University, in the USA. Jo Little is a Senior Lecturer in Geography at the University of Exeter, England. Previously she taught town and country planning at the University of the West of England. She is Director of the School of Urban and Regional Planning at Ryerson Polytechnic University in Toronto, Canada.
