This book provdes a detailed examination of the impact of economic liberalisation as a result of globalisation on educational policy and practice, and on employment opportunities for youth in Sri Lanka. The authors consider the effects of economic globalisation on both the expansion of opportunities for youth and the creation of social division among them in a society that is struggling to overcome the challenges posed by youth unrest and civil war. Their conclusions also contribute to the broader international literature on the implications of globalisation for education policy and practice, and to the interaction of exogenous and endogenous forces for educational change. This book has an interdisciplinary appeal largely based in the areas of Education policy and politics, but which also reaches out to Asian Education more broadly, South Asian society, youth policy and globalisation.
