Herbalism, Phytochemistry and Ethnopharmacology

Herbalism is the backbone of the various systems of complementary and alternative medicine such as Ayurveda, traditional Chinese medicine, Homeopathy, Unani and western medical herbalism. This work bridges the gap between those ancient sciences of herbalism and emerging disciplines such as ethnopharamoclogy or phytopharmacotherapy. It considers a number of highly regarded alternative herbal products, and applies modern tools to better understand their chemistry and mechanisms of action. By unlocking the power and action of these herbs, we will understand the efficacy of ancient treatments and learn ways to imitate nature in developing novel pharmaceuticals.
