Tom Ambrose grew up in Hampstead, London, where many of the refugees from Nazi Europe settled. He read history at Trinity College, Dublin, and gained a postgraduate degree at University College, London. After lecturing at University College, Suffolk, and completing a thesis at Newcastle University, he was drawn to advertising and worked in London and Dublin before switching to producing and directing television documentaries. He is now a full-time writer and divides his time between Suffolk and Ireland
