Kierkegaard A Critical Reader

Widely regarded as one of the seminal figures in modern intellectual history, the prevalent view of Soren Kierkegaard as either the father of existentialism or as religious writer has dominated Anglo-American interpretations of his work for much of the twentieth century. More recently, however, he is increasingly recognised as one of the greatest figures of modern European philosophy. For the first time, this collection brings together a selection of philosophically challenging interpretations of Kierkegaard's thought in a coherent critique of his philosophy.Beginning with an editorial introduction that outlines the various conflicting approaches to Kierkegaard's work, and places them within an historical context, this Critical Reader includes both previously-published and newly-commissioned essays. Including contributions from internationally renowned writers such as Emmanuel Levinas, Paul Ricoeur, and Jacques Derrida, this volume presents new and challenging ways of responding to Kierkegaard's works and ideas.
