“Dicen que la Historia la escriben los vencedores, pero no siempre es así. La verdad es que la Historia se forma por diversas voces y se registra desde diferentes puntos de vista. Unos la cuentan dependiendo de cómo la vivieron o según se la contaron; otros, como un cuento que se va deshilachando de generación en generación, y en algunos más la pintan con pinceles en papel amate o la graban en su corazón con hierros ardientes. Incluso hay quienes la heredan como un tesoro o una condena en la sangre que corre por sus venas o en el color de la piel. Los vencedores dan su versión como si fuera la única y la verdadera, mientras que los vencidos van grabando sus historias donde pueden: en la tierra, en el aire, en los vegetales en el reguero de sangre, en el alma rota, en el grito ahogado. La conservan de diferentes maneras, en recuerdos desvanecidos, en los telares, en el barro cocido, pero igualmente la depositan en sus vientres, en las moléculas familiares, debajo de las uñas.”           

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

They say History is written by those who are victorious, but it isn’t always so. In truth, History is shaped by several voices, registered from different points of view. Some tell it as they lived it or as they heard it; others, as a tale unraveling from generation to generation, while some paint it with brushes on amate paper or burn it in their hearts with red-hot irons. There are even those who inherit History as a treasure, or as a life sentence for the blood that runs through their veins or the color of their skin. The victorious render their version of things as if it were the one and only truth, while those defeated keep engraving their story wherever they can: on the earth, in the air, on the vegetation under a trail of blood, in their broken souls, in a muffled scream. They preserve History in many ways, in faded memories, in looms, in fired clay. But likewise, they store it inside their wombs, in familiar molecules, under fingernails.
