The story of Lancelot Bottomley is based on the life of a child named Lancelot because his mother had a crush on Richard Gere in the film the first Knight it is a theme on the king Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table but put into a modern idiom. The story is through Lancelot's his eyes and how he copes with puberty and hormones and his name through primary school to Secondary school through the taunts and bullies and how he overcomes adversity to his teenage years and onto college and through many encounters he manages to become a knight unbeknown to himself. In his teenage years while doing his paper round he foils a robbery at the local corner shop owned by mister Patel where he meets his daughter Yasmin who has had a marriage arrangement through her father to one of the families cousins Sharif of Nottingham whose father financed Mr Patel's journey to Britain he falls for Yasmin and helps to escape the marriage in a funny way.Lancelot gets a job at the local bingo hall owned by Arthur King whose wife is named Gwen and his daughter Vera Lancelot is torn between Yasmin and Vera but is appalled by the way they treat Yasmin because she is Pakistani.Lancelot gets a job with Mr Patel's cousin Mr Shah who is the uncle of Sharif of Nottingham because the bingo hall is closed in winter so Arthur can go to the canary isles for a holiday and there he learns more about Sharif intentions towards Yasmin One night while coming home he finds a suitcase belonging to a criminal and hides it at home in the wardrobe but knows his mother will find it so he takes it to the railway station and gets a locker and keeps taking bits out to take Vera and Yasmin out on the town not knowing the money is funny money and he is tracked down by one of the criminals The story is funny and sad at times because Lancelot can not understand the way grownups treat some one who is not one of them or has different skin color.
