Valdez takes a unique look at the adolescent female, focusing on Mexican American girls who are particularly vulnerable to violence due to the environmental, economic, and cultural factors associated with life in the Mexican American barrio.
Avelardo Valdez is currently Professor at the Graduate College of Social Work and Director of the Office for Drug and Social Policy Research at the University of Houston.
