Mineral Economics and Policy

The World of Metals examines the nature of metal supply, demand, markets, and trade, and then uses this information to explain the behavior of metal markets (such as the long-run trends in metal prices and their short-run volatility). Here too the changing location of metal production and consumption is explored along with the underlying forces behind the observed changes. The book then focuses a variety of public policy issues associated with the production and use of metals. Among the topics explored are depletion and the long-run availability of metals, mining and sustainable development, the resource curse and the Dutch Disease, and economic rents and mining taxation.
