This book investigates the transfer of parent country organizational practices by the retailers to their Chinese subsidiaries, providing insights into employment relations in multinational retail firms and changing labour-management systems in China, as well as their impact on consumer culture.

JOS GAMBLE is Professor of International Business at the School of Management, Royal Holloway, University of London, UK. His main research interests focus on employment relations in multinational enterprises, with an emphasis on the Asia Pacific region. Since studying Chinese in Shanghai in the late 1980s, he has undertaken research in China for almost two decades. He is the author of Shanghai in Transition, as well as papers in international journals and book chapters.
