Her exploration of the relationships among these apparently separate disciplines sheds new light on the history of each.

Penelope Gouk gained her PhD at the Warburg Institute, University of London, and is now a Wellcome Researcher in the History of Medicine at the University of Manchester. Her publications include The Ivory Sundials of Nuremberg, 1500--1700.
