Oxford Handbook of Nurse Prescribing

This is the first pocket-sized handbook to provide concise, practical and expert advice on all aspects of this new area of practice. It is intended for all levels of prescriber from novice to expert, and covers the basic principles of pharmacology, the bases of safe and effective prescribing and many common conditions. This handbook is written by experienced nurse prescribers and contains a wealth of guidance and information.

Sue Beckwith is a nurse and lecturer with more than 20 years experience working in the NHS and 8 years working in Higher Education. Her areas of expertise are as a Field Chair and module leader for Nurse Prescribing. She also teaches in the fields of Community Health Care, Geratology and government health care policy. Her former post was as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in Diabetes and she was a member of the Department of Health Clinical Outcomes Group for Diabetes and it is in this area that the majority of her publishing has been achieved in both peer-reviewed journals and in the medical press. A member of the Editorial Board for 'Practice Nursing' she is a reviewer and commissioner of articles and is working with the RCN to produce a diabetes web site which showcases best practice and is available for both members of the public and members of the college. Penny Franklin is Senior Lecturer for Prescribing at The University of Plymouth. She is a trained nurse and health visitor with 25 years service within the NHS. She has been working in higher education for four years and is a registered teacher of nursing. Penny is module leader for Nurse Prescribing and also teaches in the field of public health. Penny was a Public Health Locality Lead in Devon and is currently practising as a specialist advisor for smoking cessation and is also working in a GP practice in minor illness and chronic disease management clinics. Penny has published in peer-reviewed journals on the subject of assessment for nurse prescribing. Penny has a Masters degree in Complementary Health Studies and her research for this was an enquiry into the effects of lack of sleep on the couple relationship for parents with toddlers who are poor sleepers. Penny is a representative for her professional body on the National Race Equality Committee.
