Atanacia Santa Cruz Bojorquez was born in Tucson, Arizona, in 1850, of Native American and Spanish ancestry. This is her story and genealogy. Included are: her great grandfather, Modesto Hilario Santa Cruz (b. 1776) m. Mariana Gonzales; her husband, Samuel Hughes (b. 1829); her sister Petra Santa Cruz Bojorquez (b. 1844) m. Hiram Stevens; the Treat family [her daughter, Maggie (b. 1867), married Frank Treat]; and her great granddaughter Patricia Frances Black (b. 1919) m. Clifford Stratton. These histories provide a unique, family and cultural perspective on New Spain and early Tucson. Very early family photographs, stories from the family oral history, and extensive bibliographies, enhance these historical accounts. Written by C. J. Stratton Ph.D., a descendant and Historian.
