Health and Disease in Byzantine Crete (7thû12th centuries AD)

The book is one of the very few publications on Greek Byzantine populations. It is a comparative bioarchaeological study of early (6th-7th centuries AD) and middle Byzantine (11th-12th centuries AD) populations from Crete, and brings together anthropological, archaeological, historical and cultural data. The anthropological and paleopathological analysis, as well as an attempt to reconstruct dietary and weaning patterns, makes an important new contribution to a better understanding of the living conditions for the populations studied. A special emphasis is given to the impact of the environmental, cultural and other conditions on health and disease patterns, as well as on sub-adult mortality and survival.
