This book is a melting pot of many different things. It includes poetry, short stories, and modern poetry. Since he author wished for a chance for others to publish their work also, she included some of her friends' work also. This book has poetry that will make you cry, make you happy and mostly importantly, they will make you think. It has many inspirations incorporated into it. Most of Maye Khamis's work was based on her life. She altered some of it but they were inspired by the past events she had experienced. The work from Kevin Pabon, Marybeth Vallejo, Theresa Springman, and her cousin Kareem were pieces that Maye connected to when she read them.
