Drafting and Design: Basics for Interior Design covers basic information for drafting and applying drafting skills to the design process. Students are introduced to the essential drafting tools, equipment, and methods. What, when, where, and how design ideas work together is the basis of creating quality design. This text helps interior designers develop an understanding of space planning and how to make space usable and livable by applying manual drafting skills. A residential design scenario is incorporated throughout the text, which by the end of the course will provide students with a completed project and set of working drawings. The design scenario relates to the real world, reinforces the importance of accurate drafting, and provides the skills needed in the workforce.

Travis Wilson is an Associate Professor of Interior Design in the Department of Family and Consumer Science at Western Kentucky University. He is a registered interior designer running his own design-build firm since 1998 with focuses on modular and emergency medical design. His educational research focuses on historic architectural designers and construction efficiency.
