Security in a Changing Global Environment

In this book, the concept of human security is given shape in an extensive theoretical debate. Political, social, and ecological aspects of human security are discussed in the coherence of classical security concepts. The restrictive individual-based focus of human security is systematically expanded through the discussion and analysis of selected regional security structures. The book not only contributes a critical study to the international security debate, but demonstrates that the approach to human security is plagued by conceptual and analytical inconsistencies, based on its high normative all-encompassing nature, which provoke theoretical and empirical problems.
