Spot of Grace collects stories from all over the world of men, women, and children (and even a few animals) who have helped someone recognize the precious gift of their individual, unique, and powerful self, that "spot of grace". We all seek a spot of grace amidst the chaos and confusion of difficult times. What is a spot of grace? It is like a tiny shard of light, a luminosity that results from bringing the gift that only you can bring to the rest of the human community. This gift of the soul is what literally lights us up and gives our lives meaning. When we root into this place, we know how we matter, and even more, we know how the world matters to us. The first step of that journey is to recognize and embrace our unique "spot of grace," the part of each of us that is unique and powerful. These stories inspire us to embracing that spot that is often pointed out to us by a loved one, a mother, a grandmother, or even a stranger. Often we are instrumental in an important decision or pivotal moment in another's life without knowing it. By telling each other these stories, we are fostering a world in which we become refuge to each other, salve and solace. We are helping create a world in which it will be possible for each person to recognize that they can and do make a difference. It is possible to live a life of meaning and wholeness if we use the unique gifts of our soul on behalf of what we really care about. Some, like the author's grandmother, have called these messengers "angels," but they are all people, people we meet everyday, who are willing to point to that bit of light, that spot of grace, and nurture it.
