Bethesda Farule is a frustrated news anchor working for a local news station in Burntbutt, Oregon. She dreams of making it on the national stage-a dream stalled by office politics and personal doubts about her own sanity brought on by vivid dreams of another reality. One minute, Bethesda is contemplating her future at the news station after having her own show canceled and languishing as substitute anchor-the next her schizophrenic sister is telling Bethesda that she is the exiled sovereign of a place called Dabnobit Nation. Despite the wackiness of the notion, Bethesda secretly finds the story plausible because it's the tale playing itself out in her dreams. One night a witch comes to Bethesda and gifts her with the means to leave Plain-Jane World. Escaping sudden death, she returns to Dabnobit Nation and finds a nation on the brink of collapse. The very air is in short supply. Bethesda takes on Blackvoid, Sooty Nothingness, Waves of Flames, and a host of other supernatural beings to lead her followers, the sword-wielding Partisans, against her uncle, and his horde of herculean Drudges for control of The Throne and rule of the nation. On the brink of defeat, Bethesda braves a wicked mountain to recover a legendary sword. With the sword, she challenges her many foes to an epic battle.
