Teaching General Music in Grades 4-8 A Musicianship Approach

Addressing the special instructional requirements of students in grades 4-8 (age 9-14), this book offers music educators broad guidelines as well as step-by-step protocols to fit the needs of this challenging age group. The author introduces the "Action Learning Model"--which bases instruction on real-life models of musical interest and use--and presents lesson formats and classroom strategies for teaching musicianship skills, listening skills, music reading, singing, performing, and composing. He also discusses the important physical, psychological, cognitive, and social developments that occur between ages 9 and 14 and the consequences of these changes for classroom instruction.
