Kimberly McCord is Professor of Music Education at Illinois State University. She is the founder and past chair of the National Association for Music Education Special Research Interest Group on Children with Exceptionalities. Her books include Exceptional Pedagogy for Children with Exceptionalities: International Perspectives, Accessing Music: Using UDL to Enhance Student Learning in the General Music Classroom, Together We Can Improvise! Vol. 1 & 2, Strategies for Teaching Technology, Chop Monster, Jr. and chapters in Interdisciplinary Connections in Special Education: Volume 30, Orff Schulwerk: Reflections and Directions, Music Experience in Our Lives, and The Jazz Educators Resource Guide and Handbook. Her articles have been published in the Bulletin for the Council for Research in Music Education, Update, General Music Today, Music Educators Journal, Australian Journal for Music Education, Jazz Educators Journal, Orff Echo, and the Journal of Technology in Music Learning. She is on the Board of the International Society for Music Education. McCord was part of a team from Illinois State University to receive a contract from VSA/Kennedy Center for the Arts to develop assessments in the arts for children with disabilities. The team worked with twelve special educators in two Chicago Public Schools on integration of dance, drama, music and visual arts. Her research focuses on music assistive technology, collaboration between music and special educators, jazz and improvisational thinking in children.
