Technologies of Memory in the Arts

Technologies of Memory in the Arts focuses on the complex cultural process of remembering and forgetting the past. The book offers an interdisciplinary perspective on the idea that memories take shape in a social context, according to cultural practices. With a keen eye for the material and technological means involved in producing and processing memories, the authors look into the ways memories are captured and transformed in the arts. Technologies of Memory in the Arts deals with the question of how the arts can provide the site for framing and representing the past in a global present.

LIEDEKE PLATE is Assistant Professor of Gender and Cultural Studies at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. She publishes internationally on the subjects of gender, cultural memory and women's rewritings, and is the chair of the Dutch Association of Women's Studies.
 
ANNEKE SMELIK is Professor of Visual Culture on the Katrien van Munster chair at Radboud University Nijmegen in the Netherlands. She is the author of And The Mirror Cracked: Feminist Cinema and Film Theory (1998) and several books in Dutch on visual culture. She co-edited Bits of Life: Feminism at the Intersections of Media, Bioscience and Technology (2008).
