The Author: Brian Arkins is Professor of Classics at the National University of Ireland, Galway. He was educated at Clongowes Wood College and at University College, Dublin, where he obtained an M.A. in Classics and a Ph.D. in Latin. He is the author of eight books of criticism and more than 120 journal articles.
