This is the first book to address all the issues relating to timber decay, presenting the facts and exploring timber decay problems through case studies. It advises on methods of treatment and conservation which minimize the increasingly unacceptable use of preservative chemicals. The methods outlined are intended to reduce the unnecessary damage frequently caused to buildings by uninformed timber treatments, and form the basis of the timber conservation methods advocated by English Heritage and Historic Scotland.
